Sick Time*

thoughtbot ensures 10 days of fully paid sick time per year.

In Spain, the first 3 days of sick leave are normally unpaid. The 4th through the 20th day are paid at 60%, and the 21st day and on are paid at 75%. thoughtbot ensures 10 sick days by topping off the first 10 days at 100% pay.

Parental Leave*

All thoughtbot team members are eligible for both paid and unpaid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. The paid and unpaid leave can be combined for up to 6 months of total time off. thoughtbot ensures 6 weeks 100% paid parental leave for all non-birthing parents and 12 weeks 100% paid parental leave for all birthing parents. In locations with their own system for paid leave, thoughtbot’s policy runs concurrently with the local system.

In Spain both birthing parents and non-birthing parents can receive partial pay from the Social Security Administration for 16 weeks. For birthing parents, 4 of these partially-paid weeks can be taken leading up to birth. For both birthing and non-birthing parents, at least 6 uninterrupted weeks must be taken immediately after birth, and the leave should be taken in full weeks, within 12 months of birth. thoughtbot will top off the payment from social security to 100% pay for the first 12 weeks after birth for birthing parents, and for the first 6 weeks after birth for non-birthing parents.

Breastfeeding Leave*

In addition to parental leave, fully paid breastfeeding leave is available for new parents. This leave can be taken in 2 ways:
