Mexico Benefits

Benefits vary by country in accordance with each country’s employment laws. This page serves as an overview of benefits for Mexico. The Employer of Record for Mexico, Remote, can provide additional details on the benefits that they administer (denoted below with *).

In addition to location-specific benefits, Shared Benefits are available to all employees.

All holidays are determined by the Employer of Record and may vary by year.

Vacation Time

Employees accrue 20 days of vacation per year. Your vacation accrual increases to 25 days per year on your third anniversary at thoughtbot.

Sick Time

Employees accrue 10 days of sick time per year. Sick time is to take care of yourself or a loved one.

Parental Leave*

You are eligible for both paid and unpaid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. The paid and unpaid leave can be combined for up to 6 months of parental leave. thoughtbot provides 6 weeks paid time off for all new parents.

You may use available sick days or vacation days after the 6 weeks of parental leave paid by thoughtbot. After exhausting paid options, you may take unpaid parental leave for the remainder of the 6 months.

In Mexico pregnant employees can take up to 12 weeks of paid leave. 6 weeks can be taken before birth, and 6 weeks after birth. This is inclusive of the 6 weeks of thougthbot parental leave.

Bereavement Leave

Employees may take up to 5 paid days off for the death of someone close. We understand the deep impact that death can have on an individual or a family, so if you need more than 5 days off, you can also use your accrued paid time off, or unpaid time off.


Employees receive 25% as Vacation Premium for the first 14 days of vacation. Employees also receive a Christmas Bonus of 15 days of their base salary before the 20th day of December each year.

Payroll Cycle*

All payments are processed through Remote. Payments are made in equal semimonthly installments, payable in arrears. All bonuses, stipends, and reimbursements are added to the last payment of the month.
