Sick leaves lasting up to 3 consecutive days

Sick leaves lasting up to 3 consecutive days do not require a medical certificate.

Sick leaves lasting 4 or more consecutive days

For sick leaves lasting 4 or more consecutive days, you should apply for the Illness Benefit on MyWelfare, which requires a medical certificate. thoughtbot will top off any Illness Benefit amount to your full pay rate for up to 10 total sick days of any kind per year.

Parental Leave*

All thoughtbot team members are eligible for both paid and unpaid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. The paid and unpaid leave can be combined for up to 6 months of total time off. In some locations, team members are eligible for more time off. thoughtbot ensures 6 weeks 100% paid parental leave for all non-birthing parents and 12 weeks 100% paid parental leave for all birthing parents. In locations with their own system for paid leave, thoughtbot’s policy runs concurrently with the local system.

Birthing Parents

In Ireland birthing parents must take at least 2 weeks of pregnancy leave before the due date and at least 4 weeks parental leave after childbirth, with a maximum of 26 weeks in total with partial pay. thoughtbot will top off the pay to 100% for the first 12 weeks. Birthing parents can also receive an additional 16 weeks of unpaid leave, which begins immediately after the end of paid leave.

Bereavement Leave

Team members may take up to 5 paid days off anytime someone close passes away. This includes pregnancy loss. We understand the deep impact that death can have on an individual or a family. If you need more than 5 days off, you can also use your accrued paid time off or unpaid time off.
