Benefits vary by country in accordance with each country’s employment laws. This page serves as an overview of benefits for Ireland. The Employer of Record for Ireland, Remote, can provide additional details on the benefits that they administer (denoted below with *).

In addition to location-specific benefits, Shared Benefits are available to all employees.

Annual leave

Employees accrue 20 days of annual leave per year. Your accrual increases to 25 days per year on your third anniversary at thoughtbot.

Sick Time

Employees accrue 10 days of sick time per year. Sick time is to take care of yourself or a loved one.

Parental Leave*

You are eligible for both paid and unpaid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. The paid and unpaid leave can be combined for up to 6 months of parental leave. thoughtbot provides 6 weeks paid time off for all new parents.

You may use available sick days or vacation days after the 6 weeks of parental leave paid by thoughtbot. After exhausting paid options, you may take unpaid parental leave for the remainder of the 6 months.

In Ireland pregnant employees must take at least 2 weeks of pregnancy leave before the due date and at least 4 weeks parental leave after childbirth, with a maximum of 26 weeks in total with partial pay. This leave is inclusive of the 6 weeks of thoughtbot parental leave. The birthing parent can also receive an extra 16 weeks of unpaid leave, which begins immediately after the end of paid leave.

Bereavement Leave

Employees may take up to 5 paid days off for the death of someone close. We understand the deep impact that death can have on an individual or a family, so if you need more than 5 days off, you can also use your accrued paid time off, or unpaid time off.

Medical Insurance*

Medical Insurance is available through Irish Life Health.

Payroll Cycle*

All payments are processed through Remote. Payments are made in equal monthly installments on or before the last working day of each month, payable in arrears. All bonuses, stipends, and reimbursements are added to the monthly payments.
