Annual Leave/Vacation Time*
Team members accrue 20 working days of vacation during their first year of employment. Any unused accrued time from the first year will be lost on the first anniversary.
The vacation accrual increases to 25 work days per year on the first anniversary at thoughtbot. Any unused time accrued after the first anniversary will be lost at the end of the following employment year.
Team members can take up to 15 days of paid sick leave per year. Additional partially paid sick time may be available through social security (INSS).
All thoughtbot team members are eligible for both paid and unpaid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. The paid and unpaid leave can be combined for up to 6 months of total time off. In locations with their own system for paid leave, thoughtbot’s policy runs concurrently with the local system.
In Brazil birthing parents are entitled to 120 calendar days of leave at 100% their regular salary.
thoughtbot ensures 6 weeks 100% paid parental leave for all non-birthing parents.
Team members may take up to 5 paid days off anytime someone close passes away. This includes pregnancy loss. We understand the deep impact that death can have on an individual or a family. If you need more than 5 days off, you can also use your accrued paid time off or unpaid time off.
Team members are entitled to three consecutive days of paid leave when they get married.
Medical insurance is available through Omint.
Team members are entitled to a 13th-month bonus. This is an amount equal to one month’s salary which is paid out to team members in two parts in November and December. Team members also receive a vacation premium paid at 1/3 of their regular pay.
Collective Bargining Agreemeent (CBA)*
All our team members in Brazil are part of a union. The CBA determines the annual salary increase amount in Brazil, which goes into effect retroactively on January 1st of each year.
Team members receive an amount determined by the CBA paid in advance to their VR Meal Card. In 2022, for example, it was set to R$30.00 per workday (22 days/mo).
Team members with children aged 0 to 5 years are eligible for monthly childcare allowance after parental leave ends, and once required documents are submitted to Remote. The amount is determined by the CBA each year. In 2022, for example, it was set to up to R$274.59/mo.
All payments are processed through Remote. Payments are made in equal semimonthly installments, payable in arrears. All bonuses, stipends, and expenses reimbursements are added to the final paycheck of the month. The cut off date for submitting and approving expenses is the 10th of the month.
The details of your notice period can be found in your Remote contract. The standard notice period for Brazil is 30 days.
